After World War 2, about three million passenger journeys were made annually on South Australian country trains. After initial teething problems, mainly caused by the "Cotal" gearboxes, the Bluebirds commenced regular operations on the Morgan line in October 1954. The Bluebirds took over most country lines from the 75 Class rail Cars. However the Bluebirds were not able to arrest the slow decline in country passenger train patronage and services finished to Morgan 1965, Moonta 1969, Tailem Bend 1981, Gladstone 1982 and Victor Harbour 1984
